11th October, 1805. Ulm, Austria.

General Mack. You have been sheltered in the entrenched camp of Ulm for several weeks, awaiting the French to fall into your trap. Ulm is the anvil, and the Russians the hammer! However, recent events have undermined your confidence (not that you would display that to your men), with reports of large numbers of the enemy on the south bank of the Danube. You had decided to retreat along the north bank, but then recovered your nerve. However, this morning your scouts bring news of a French force on the north bank, at Thalfingen, Haslach and Jungingen, across your proposed route of retreat! The enemy are in divisional strength, but who knows what size of force is following? The enemy must be crushed, and they will be- your have the main Austrian army to hand. You have acted quickly, and organised the army into two wings and a reserve. You will personally direct the attack, and show the French who they are dealing with.

The left wing has been despatched on the road to Jungingen, via Lehr, with the right wing heading straight along the main road to Haslach. The reserve forms the rear of the right hand column, and awaits your orders.
