Battle
of the Santon 2nd
December 1805
The main French-Allied armies
are formed facing eachother
near the town
of Austerlitz.
The Emperor has conceived a
battle plan that involves refusing the southern flank, whilst sending
the bulk of the French army in a wide envelopment of the Allied flank.
He has assumed that there would be no significant Allied forces on this
part of the battlefield, judging that they would fall into his trap and
attack to the south. Therefore, Lannes
and
Murat
are to move from their start points
to the west of the Santon,
sweep around Blasowitz,
and envelop the Russian flank and
rear. Lannes
should start in the lead,
deployed between Bosenitz
and the stream
which leads to Blasowitz.
Murat’s
troops begin the game deployed
behind Lannes’
forces.
Lannes is on Attack orders, to take the
villages of Blasowitz,
Krug and Holubitz.
Murat
can choose which orders he starts the
game on, and may convert these to Attack at any time.
The Battlefield
The battle was fought at the extreme north of the Austerlitz battlefield, neatly bounded by the village of Blasowitz, and the stream which runs alongside it.
The terrain was mostly rolling countryside, bounded to the north by wooded high ground. There were several villages, though none afforded any great defensive positions. One feature of note was the Santon, a small, high, flat topped, steep sided hill. The French posted, with great difficulty, a battery of 18 captured Austrian 3 lb guns on the top of this hill.
